Okay, that is good information to know. Shorts are out. Average high temperatures in Savannah for October are 78, and if you are on the coast and starting the wedding at sunset so you can expect it to not be that warm. Breezy if anything.
For you, khaki pants and a long sleeve button up shirt. I would avoid white, both because of the Labor Day rule (that no one really follows any more) and because you don't want to blend in too much with the groomsmen. I would go with the shirt un-tucked, and then evaluate the situation when you get there. Easy enough to tuck it in if every one is dressed up, but hard to get wrinkles out if tuck it in first and then decide to un-tuck.
For the Mrs., a gown would be too formal. A sundress, or long skirt with appropriate top will be fine. She could even wear khakis herself with a cardigan top, and so on. No shorts for either of you though.
