Is it proper to put my the following on my wedding invitation: "Jane Robinson, daughter of the late Hilary Robinson and Mr. Timothy Robinson, etc." on my wedding invitation or should I omit "the late" in front of my mother''s name? My dad will be bringing his new wife to the wedding, and I don''t want any misconceptions that she is my mother. Any other suggestions?

Dear Shining Star 3003,

Generally you wouldn't mention a deceased parent on the invitation, however, you do want to put something in your program and possibly do a memory candle or honor your mother with a flower on the altar.

However, if you want to go ahead and list your mother,

You can word your invitation something like this:

Jane Robinson
daughter of
Mr. Timothy Robinson and the late Mrs. Hilary Robinson
etc.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Thanks, Tanya. So, the father's name would go first in this instance?
